A FABLE FOR CLASSICAL GUITARISTS

A store that sells new Classical Guitars has just opened in New York City, where Guitarists of any level may go to choose a Guitar and pay nothing. The instructions at the entrance is a description of how the store operates.

You may visit the store ONLY ONCE! There are six floors and the quality of the Guitars only increase as the shopper ascends the flights.

There is, however, a catch ! You may choose any Guitar from a particular floor, or you may choose to go up a floor, but you cannot go back down except to exit the building !

So, an aspiring Classical Guitarist goes to this new Classical Guitar Store to find a Guitar.

On the first floor the sign on the door reads: Floor 1 - These Guitars are factory made but have an acceptable sound and are suitable for beginners.

The Guitarist goes to the second floor and the second floor sign reads: Floor 2 - These Guitars are factory made but are hand selected and endorsed by only well known Classical Guitarists.

On to the third floor where the sign reads: Floor 3 - These Guitars are hand made and signed by the world's best known makers. "Wow," the Guitarist thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

Up to the fourth floor and sign reads: Floor 4 - These Guitars have been owned by the most famous of Concert and recording artists and come with the very best travel cases. "Holy Smokes!" the Guitarist exclaims, "I can hardly stand it".

Still, on to the fifth floor and sign reads: Floor 5 - These Guitars are the best the world has to offer and literally play themselves without any practice and whoever owns them can walk right onto the concert stage and play anything in the Classical Guitar repertoire at will to a guaranteed standing ovation.

Extremely Tempted to stay, The Guitarist rushes up to the sixth floor eagerly anticipating what could possibly be next ! The sign reads: Floor 6 - You are visitor 435,986,012 to this floor. There are no Guitars on this floor. This floor exists solely as proof that most Classical Guitarists are dreamers and firmly believe that they will become the next Segovia without ever practicing a thing correctly. "Thank you for shopping at the Guitar Store."

A New Classical Guitar store opens across the street.

The first floor has only hand made Classical Guitars of the finest quality but are not inexpensive.
